Our Suffering Problem

Good words and so prevalent for today.

This past week I talked with a theologian, a filmmaker, and a musician to discuss work that each of them are doing on the topic of suffering and faith.

It’s actually a bit weirder than that though.

The four of us each have been independently pursuing this subject matter because we have noticed a void within our culture, and in our faith communities, in how we deal with suffering, how we relate to others who are suffering, and then the language and/or the lack of language we have to express our suffering or comfort those who are suffering.

When I see independent dots on a page and how they seemingly fit together toward a larger and more beautiful picture, I pay attention to it. Because, as I have learned over the years, it is usually within these moments where the Spirit is guiding us along new pathways, leading…
